After a series of fires in the municipality of Schiffweiler (starting from May 27, 2026), the specialist unit for arson offenses at the State Criminal Police Office took over the investigations in close cooperation with the Neunkirchen Police Department. The investigations revealed a suspicion against a 20-year-old man from the Schiffweiler area. Today, a total of four properties were searched for evidence.
On May 27, 2026, a fire broke out in Schiffweiler on a company site in the Klinkenthal business park involving several wooden pallets with containers of plastic granulate placed on top. Thanks to the quick discovery of the fire and the immediately initiated firefighting measures, extensive fire spread could be prevented. The resulting property damage is expected to be in the lower four-figure range. Investigations by the specialized department for arson revealed that the cause of the fire was deliberate arson by human hand. Extensive investigative measures have led to a suspicion against a 20-year-old employee of the company.
Furthermore, the man from the municipality of Schiffweiler is suspected of having started at least seven wildfires in the community.
On today’s date (07/09/2026), a search warrant requested by the Saarbrücken Public Prosecutor’s Office and issued by the Saarbrücken District Court was executed at a total of four locations by officers from the Arson Division as well as detectives from the Criminal and Investigation Department of the Neunkirchen Police Precinct. In addition to two apartments, parts of the workplace and the personal locker of the suspect at the fire station in Landsweiler/Reden were also searched. The police secured evidence that still needs to be analyzed.
The connection to a series of other fires in the vicinity of vacant buildings in the Schiffweiler area is currently the subject of further investigations.
