The driver of a Peugeot caused a brief pursuit through the town of Hanweiler on Tuesday (21.07.2026). Apparently, he had no interest in a border police check by the Federal Police and disregarded the unmistakable signals from the officers. This can now become really costly for the Irishman.
The 59-year-old and the 52-year-old passenger were identified at the Hanweiler border crossing, and the Peugeot’s license plate was checked. The check revealed a residency inquiry due to theft against the driver. The deployed patrol then gave the driver clearly noticeable stop signals, which the 59-year-old ignored. At a roundabout, the driver decided to evade the check by heading towards the German-French border and accelerated his vehicle sharply.
The forces immediately began the pursuit. Due to the reckless driving, the driver had to evade a turning vehicle in Kleinblittersdorf, as a result of which he lost control of the Peugeot and crashed into an Audi parked on the roadside.
The Federal Police patrol immediately called an ambulance. Despite the collision, both the driver and the passenger were responsive and uninjured.
The notified state police took over the traffic accident report on-site. The Federal Police Inspectorate Saarbrücken has initiated a fine procedure against the Irish citizen for failure to submit to the check during the border crossing. According to legal provisions, this administrative offense can be punished with a fine of up to five thousand euros. In addition, the driver is suspected of committing an offense through a so-called "solo race" in accordance with § 315d para. 2 StGB.
